Care Today Fund initiated this project to support setting-up and expand library facility in the premises of Tihar for its inmates. Since the start of this initiative, several hundreds of Hindi books were added to the library and it has also been upgraded with digital equipments, including iPads, especially for those inmates who are illiterates. The library has promoted reading habits extensively among the inmates.

In November 2018, Care Today Fund with the support of CSR grant received from TV Today Network Ltd, initiated a project in Tihar by appointing a consultant to promote literacy and coach young inmates in 18-21year age group, who were enrolled for the Class X and XII examinations under the National Institute of Open School (NIOS). Out of the 93 inmates enrolled under NIOS, 76 were for class X and 17 for class XII examinations. The major aim of this effort was to help promote literacy and support the students to clear their exams and make them better qualified.

During the April-May 2019 NIOS examination, out of the 97 enrolled, 16 class X students and 4 class XII students registered and appeared for the examination and all 20 of them have successfully cleared the examinations. The Dy. Superintendent, Tihar Jail No. 5, has applauded the efforts of Care Today Fund consultant for this remarkable achievement and that too within a short period of 6 months.

The impact of the initiative has been such that in the FY 2019-20 academic sessions, 97 students have enrolled for NIOS examination, out of which 67 are for Class X and 30 for Class XII examinations. Care Today Fund continues to support the consultant to provide tutorial support to these enrolled students.
